Tennis matches of the decade

Goog morning everyone! In Slazenger Heritage today’s post  we are going to rank the best five tennis matches of the decade. This 2020 we are finishing a decade. Therefore, as we are not sure if we are going to experience any other match due to Coronavirus, we have decided to make the top five of the games played so far. We really hope you enjoy it!

 

We have not mentioned it yet but we imagined you would know. This ranking is based on tennis matches played in Wimbledon, a tournament where Slazenger is a main sponsor. And now, without futher ado, here is your top five tennis matches of the decade in Wimbledon.

5. 2013 – Quarter-final – Andy Murray vs Fernando Verdasco

This year’s edition was the first one won by an english tennis player in 77 years. We bet you remember the final where Murray step over Djokovic. Nevertheless, all spectators who were lucky to presentiate his match against the spaniard will not have the same opinion.

Verdasco started the day with confidence, going up two sets in the scoreboard. Everything seems to be getting straight to Fernando. Everyone expected him to go to the next round in that point. However, Andy did not think the same. He came back and managed to overcome the difficulties. A game everyone there will always remember.

4. 2013 – Semi-final – Novak Djokovic vs Juan Martin del Potro

As a background, let’s keep in mind something: this was the longest semi-final in Wimbledon history, lasting four hours and 13 minutes! Do you think it was epic? Well, of course it was!

Everyone was betting on Djokovic to win. He was, and still is, one of the best tennis players in tennis history. But that day you could feel something special in the air. Del Potro was not an easy opponent. 

They alternate each set until the fifth. One for each other maintaining the draw until the last moment. Then, after a tense and difficult game the last points arrived. It was the time for the legend to appear and so did him. Novak gave everything from himself and finished beating Del Potro.

 

3. 2018 – Quarter-final – Rafael Nadal vs Juan Martin del Potro

And again, here is the argentinian tennis player. It looks like he wanted to be in our top five tennis matches of the decade more than once. And he deserves it!

In this occasion both players were giving their best. It was not a bad day for neither of them. And in those situations, nothing bad can happen for a spectator. We could presentiate the most ingenious and incredicle points ever seen in this match.

After four long hours, Nadal found the week spot of del Potro, winnig the point, set and match.

2. 2019 – Final – Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer

Two vivid legends in the tennis court. Both face to face in the final of a big tournament: Wimbledon. Does it not sound appealing enough to you? 

Well we are going to be straight with this one. In case you do not remember Djokovic won. After more than five hours the two tennis beasts finished up one of the most legendary matches ever seen. Just the last set speaks for himself. It ended 13-12 games!

1. 2018 – Semi-final – Novak Djokovic vs Rafael Nadal

Third time the serbian tennis player appears in our top. He sure has a place in this tennis decade!

Regarding the match we could say that even though it was not the final everyone expected it to be even better. Actually, there was no doubt that the winner of this game was going to be the winner of the tournamment.

In that situation, they spent more than five hours on the pitch (because of the rain). It could have gone to either of boths sides but it ended up going to Djokovic’s. If you have some free time we really encourage you to rewatch it. You will not regret it!
