Wimbledon 2021: news and changes

Wimbledon 2021 will be celebrated the 28 of June. The organizer of the tournament has choosen this date because it will be a relaxation of health measures. Actually, travel to the UK is very difficult, you will need a PCR before the flight, and a quarentine of ten days.

Health measures for Wimbledon 2021

The tournament was suspended the previous year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the first time since 1945 when it was suspended due to the end of the Second World War. However, Wimbledon was the only entity on the entire tennis circuit that had pandemic insurance. Following the cancellation of the event, they received a compensation of £110 million (€114 million).

Initially AELTC reconsidered three alternatives: a tournament with all fans, reduced capacity or without public. Finally, the organizer of the tournament, has announced that Wimbledon 2021 edition, will be held from June 28 to July 11. This edition will have at least 25% of the capacity in the stands.

For the first time in history, the tennis players will stay in the same hotel. The selected hotel will be the Park Plaza Hotel, a luxurious 5-star hotel. They will will have a view of the Tower Bridge or the London Eye. One of those players will be Roger Federer who has received permission.

Changes for Wimbledon 2022

The other big news is the fact that for the 2022 edition the middle sunday wont be held. This is a tradition which takes place on Sunday in the middle of the tournament. During this day the tournament stops in order to take care of the tennis court.
